Salmon Derby Start July 10th This Saturday

The Great Ontario Salmon Derby Starts this Saturday and runs until Aug 28th. This could be one of the biggest fish years in the past ten years. We have already had fish over 28- up to 31 pounds caught. Here is a picture of a 30lb+ fish caught in the past week.

The fishing is really picking up now with less than a week a away from the Great Ontario Salmon Derby. It starts this Saturday, July 10th. The chinooks salmon are very large this year with many fish already being caught at 30lbs up to 34 and change. It is going to be an incredible BIG fish year, best perhaps in last ten years. Here are some pictures of some charters from the past week. Best lures this week have been a mix of Michigan stinger spoons.

Boat is finally near Toronto

Today was a great day, crossed the big pond from St.Catherines to Bluffers with a good friend.

Special thanks to Arron for helping us drive truck and trailer home. The fishing is really good and only getting better by day.

Monday May 10th report from St.Catherines area. It was a great morning to have the pleasure to fish with two good friends Mike and Greg. We ended up with well over a dozen fish on and lost count of the Lake Trout Boated. Hot Flies were Raptures in Oceana colour of White paddles. Was it ever nice to double up and see the wire divers singing again. Please come out for great action this year as our next trip will be in search of Salmon.

Boat is in St.Catherines charters have started

The boat is officially in the water and we are catching fish. There has been some really big fish caught this year with some 25,26,27 and even a 32lber weighed in already for various derbies.

Als Adventures is an official boat in the Great Ontario Salmon Derby again starting July 10th to August 28 which means anyone who comes aboard gets a free one day ticket to the derby. The spring fishing is a blast with a mix of chinooks, coho, rainbows , browns, and lake trout.

The plan is to keep boat at Port Dalhousie in St.Catherines until fish show up in good numbers on North shore then off to Scarborough Bluffers Park, for June/July. We will keep you posted on the move.

Spring Salmon Fishing 1st charter of year

The season is hear and the fish are bitting. Had the pleasure of getting out on Friday for my first charter of the year. We set lines in the am and did not like what we saw so we picked up and moved to an area where I knew there would be some fish. Spoons were the key to our success with a variety of patterns working, 30-55 down was the ticket. First fish was a coho caught on a michigan stinger spoon. We had to work a very tight area to stay on the fish. A great way to start the year and a pleasure to meet some great guys from the Port Dalhousie area.

4-8 was our total with one nice chinook, some cohos and one laker.

Family friends, Walt and the gang with a nice "tyee" great day guys.

The fishing still remains good for the big Salmon, with the fish staging the river mouths now. A huge congratulations to Rick with his first "tyee" 30lb+ Salmon. The Fishing continues to be good with some great steelhead, Rainbow trout action and some nice mature salmon in tight near shore. I had the pleasure of taking out a birthday boy and catching him his biggest fish ever. The kids had a great time and are great anglers, congrats on a fine catch boys. We boated a few fish this past week ranging from 20-26lbs for mature chinooks. Still waiting on some photos. The weather has been great and the best baits for us has been a mix of Michigan Stinger Stingray spoons, with some Rapture Trolling flies, best colors have been blues/greens and some white flies(Oceana). The air show was in town and all week we had some great airplane action right over the boat. Had a great weekend of fishing, with a mix of steelhead, coho and chinook being caught. The bigger fish are still around they are really darkening up as they are close to there fall run now.

I had the great pleasure of taking a local family and gettting a youngster "hooked" on fishing. Keys to our success have been moving around and trolling Rapture Trolling Flies, Plugs, and meat, with a wide variety of michigan spoons. We have been getting fish of the planner board with Michigan Stinger Dive bombs in various sizes too.

A personal best rainbow trout for the Birthday boy, Congrats.
Big Jon Downriggers, with Okuma reels and rods. Part of the days package. Top end gear.
A very happy birthday boy, happy birthday and a great outing it was. We caught over 10 fish with a bunch of nice rainbows and cohos. Best baits were michigan stinger spoons , and the hypnotist rapture troling fly attached to a Mountain dew Pro Troll flasher. I had a ton of fun with a great group and the fishing was great. I was on vacation for 4 days, but back at the fish today. We ended up with about a dozen rainbows a coho and small kings. Our big fish this week is 22lb so far. I am fully booked but have wed am open and Friday open this week.

Congrats on a 27.82 lb fish , a new personal best for a happy client.

The Salmon derby is on and the fishing is getting better every day, I have been really busy with charters and we have been catching lots of good salmon. We have a new big fish leader for alsadventures this year, with a 27.82lb fish. We also had some great steelhead up to the 12-15lb range this week. The fishing remains to be good with some decent fish caught the past few days. We are picking up rainbow trout mixed in with some nice silver chinook salmon. Nothing super big but some fish close to 20lbs are fighting like mad in the cold water. I had a family up from the States and it was so much fun to watch the younger kids fight some big fish. The Salmon fishing is getting better by the day now. This weekend was the official start to the Great Ontario Salmon Derby, and there is some great catches so far.We had another great couple days with our biggest fish weighing just under 25lbs. My cousins Myles, Elliott and Claire came out for an evening charter. We ended up with 4 rainbow trout, and 6 nice salmon, we lost a double header but had a chance to watch a huge salmon jump multiple times on the surface before he threw the hook. The best lures were Rapture Flies and, Michigan Stinger spoons. All fish were caught and released for another day. I had a great time with the cousins and we will do it again for sure. Spring Trip Brazil Boys

Two brothers from Brazil came to fish in Late May and there were more than happy. We hooked some nice mature salmon for them the biggest was 20 pounds. They caught some rainbow trout as well. I had the pleasure of taking out a family from Charolette Carolina. It was there first time in Toronto and Canada and they decided to do some Salmon fishing. The weather once again was great and we some had lots of action. Some coho salmon, rainbows and Chinook were all caught and we had some nice mature fish with biggest just over 20 pounds. The best lure today was the Rapture trolling fly. Great company and what an adventure.

The fishing on Lake Ontario for Salmon has continued to be good. I had the pleasure of taking out Corrine for her first salmon outing and she landed her first 20 pound + salmon with a smile. The weather was fantastic and we ended up with 5 nice mature Salmon ranging from 16-22 pounds. The fish are fighting very well and there is lots of food out there right now. Today was a great day of fishing. I had some time to get out with some good friends, Derek and Aron and we had a blast. The fish were hitting non stop most of the day. The big fish of the day and for the year so far with Als Adventures is Derek with a 24.68lber, congratulations Derek on a great fish.

Salmon Report June 16

Cam and Kevin came out for their first salmon trip on Lake Ontario and had a great time. We ended up boating 7 fish and three big Salmon. Our big fish for the day was just shy of the 20lb mark. Here is a picture of Kevin with his new personal best Salmon. What a great day and I am sure they will be back for more.
